The very basic need of the drums is for you to have a beat so that learning it will be easier.

Getting the hands and feet to coordinate enough to play the drums is sometimes challenging for some people. Regular practice and exercising your hands and feet may be a good way to learn coordination between them.

One exercise that you can do is to try to get a beat on your foot going, then carefully accompany this beat with your hands, by tapping on a table or any surface to create a rhythm. This exercise can help greatly in your problem with coordination and does not necessarily need a drum set.
